What is unique about Victoria's Piano Lessons?
As a piano teacher, I strive to make learning to play the piano fun while developing a love for music in my students. My goal is for my students to have a solid foundation in music theory and technique as they learn to play the piano to the best of their abilities in a positive, rewarding and fun atmosphere. In my studio, students come in for lessons and we work together learning new ideas and songs. While at the studio, students get to spend time using all of the technology, games, resources, and activities that I have available in my studio. They are reviewing these intellectual concepts in multiple domains: sensory, auditory, and kinesthetic. Not only is this fun… it is a sneaky and fun way of getting kids to retain everything learned in the private lessons. One other thing… Traditional piano lessons can be very lonely. I frequently do games with students who come back to back. This is an efficient way of doing review and also gives kids a sense of camaraderie. The social environment also triggers different kinds of learning. My format supports kids in their learning. It injects an element of fun and excitement into their lessons that you won’t experience just anywhere.
Why choose piano lessons?
With all the activities children can choose from, it is hard to make the commitment to music lessons. You may think your child isn’t going to be the next Mozart. . . so why take lessons? Music study teaches so much more than just learning to play an instrument. While music may help with academics and IQs, it more importantly teaches many life skills. Kids are little sponges. Learning the facts of music? Not too hard. The real trouble that kids run into is learning how to manage multiple songs every week and learning how to practice the piano correctly. That is why I place such an emphasis on the process of practice. I help them with their problem solving skills, their discipline, and their organization. They will carry these skills into other parts of their life… including academics!
How much is my child required to practice?
Regularly scheduled, quality practice is much more important than quantity. I do not require a certain amount of minutes from my students; I simply encourage them to practice a minimum of 4 days between lessons. In the lessons, we spend time discussing ways to efficiently practice specific passages in their music in order to make the most amount of progress in the least amount of time.
Do I need a piano?
Yes! Your child will need either a regularly tuned acoustic piano or a quality digital piano. Acoustic pianos should be tuned twice a year. If you are shopping for a digital piano be sure to purchase one with weighted keys.
Will my child be able to participate in recitals?
We typically have three recitals scheduled throughout the year. The Halloween recital (costumes encouraged) is always a big hit. In December we have a Christmas/Winter recital, and in the spring, we have an end of the school year recital.
